What's the difference between a Hotspot and its nested Interactive Boundary?

Basically the title, I'm a bit confused over this since they can be entirely different sizes. Is the yellow hotspot nothing more than a visible marker for the InteractiveBoundary?

  • The Hotspot's yellow boundary has a slightly different meaning depending on your chosen Hotspot detection method value, in the Settings Manager.

When set to Mouse Over, it represents the portion of the screen that - when clicked on with the cursor - will interact with it.

When set to Player Vicinity, it represents the portion of the screen that the Player's "Hotspot Detector" will need to come into contact with for it to be interactable.

The Interactive Boundary is a way to further limit interactivity. If set, then the Player themselves will need to be standing within this boundary for the Hotspot to be interactable.

It will still be bound be the "Detection method" rules - so you'd still need to mouse over the yellow box, for example. However, it will be "invisible" if the Player is outside of the Interactive Boundary.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand the connection with the "portion of the screen". I thought the "Player Vicinity" setting already implied detecting whether the player is standing within certain boundaries?

  • They do serve similar purposes, it's true.

Perhaps an example situation can help better explain its purpose. A Hotspot that the Player can approach from all angles, but you only wish to be interactable from the front.
