Display selectable menu items during gameplay

I'm putting together a direct control main menu scene that uses a looping scene as the backdrop, with particle effects and various moving elements, but I've run into a bit of a hiccup: my interactive main menu options only seem to be able to display when I set the menu element to "Pause game when enabled," which of course freezes all of the elements running in the background via ActionLists.

The menu is currently set up to appear manually, and I call it (and an accompanying text element) as part of the OnStart cutscene. The menu buttons do show up exactly as expected when the "Pause game when enabled" option it checked.

I've tried setting it to "Clickable in cutscenes" but that doesn't seem to do anything in this situation. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

  • To prevent Menus from inadvertently taking control from scene input, it's necessary to use the Engine: Manage systems Action to allow for direct-controlled Menus during gameplay.
